Having had a month to give the Benefit They’re Real Push Up Liner a go and with the official release of it tomorrow, I thought I would give
my two-cents about it. I was extremely lucky to get an invite to the launch of
this revolutionary product, which you can read about here, and ever since then
there’s been such a buzz surrounding Benefit’s new edition to the They’re Real
family.
With this liner being the first ever gel liner in a pen
form, it claims to be easy to use, lash hugging, long lasting and waterproof.
Now I am going to be totally honest and say I’m really torn with this, I really
feel like some of the negatives come from the positives...does that make sense?
No, ok let’s get to it…
When it comes to eye liner- I am a noob; I tend to enhance
my eyes with black eye shadow instead as it avoids the frustration of
perfecting that neat little line and flick. My preferred type of eye liner has
to be the felt liner in pen form and I love the gel formula so the idea of
Benefit’s new invention sounded wonderful to me.
Let’s start with the positives; I really love the gel consistency
with the matte finish and it is extremely long lasting which means you can go
the day without worrying what state you’re in. I do perhaps find that the liner
is so long lasting and so waterproof that it is hard to remove, which is why
they brought out the They’re Real Remover which definitely works a trick, but
not all eye makeup removers are going to work on this…just be warned.
The flexible rubber nip is designed to ensure you can get
right down to the lash line which it does pretty well, but I find the
flexibility is perhaps too much…for me I don’t have enough control and I end up
having to keep thickening the line- definitely ruining the sophisticated look I
was going for. I also find it hard to measure how much to twist out, leading to
big clumps of gel creating big messes everywhere!
I’m definitely not writing this off or giving up, I just
think this product takes a lot of practice and getting used to and I definitely
don’t think it’s easy for someone that struggles with a good line and flick
already. I have really loved wearing it when I’ve got it right and I can see
why so many people are loving it, I just need to get the flick down.
I do love the whole concept and love the fusion of the gel
and the pen and I can’t wait to get my look right soon. I think I definitely
need to get over my laziness with makeup application and give it a bit more
time- I can do this!
I know what you mean. I loved the idea of this, it sounded like a dream come true, but some days it takes one second to apply and others I can be there for an hour!
