the yellow bag & my birthday

Dress: SheInside*
Boots: Clarks
Sunglasses: Primark

I've been such a bad blogger lately- let's just put it down to having no time to do hardly anything! It does frustrate me sometimes- I have lots of ideas written down but finding the time to take photos and do the blog post is a real struggle for me, but I try not to make myself feel too bad and let it flow when it comes to me. I thought I would include this outfit in this post because I hadn't gotten round to it a couple of weeks ago. I really like how flowy and summery this dress is and it's going to be great for my holiday (with is in 9 days- not that I'm counting down or anything! I think the yellow bag just adds a bit more to the outfit too!
It was actually my birthday yesterday and with turning 22 I feel like my teenage years are long gone and I'm starting to feel more 'grown up' these days. I started the celebrations with a family dinner last week which was really lovely and my parents gave me a Kindle which I was super happy with, any book recommendations would be appreciated! I did lots of fun things over the weekend too which involved Thorpe park, shopping and a girly sleepover with my best friends! Anna and Lydia did good with their little surprises; they suddenly brought out a vase full of pink and purple tulips (my favourite) and surprised me with a cute breakfast the next morning- they're the best! It was the perfect birthday-eve with girly chats, movies and lots and lots of chocolate! I finished off my birthday with a really lovely dinner with Dan and he treated me to a really pretty Pandora ring; it really has been lovely!

I just want to say massive thank you if you read or commented on my post about being healthier and happier because it had such good feedback and I'm so happy I decided to write it.

party dress

Primark clutch
Primark wedges
MAC Viva Glam Nicki

I love a good party dress, so when Chi Chi London asked whether I would be interested in styling one of their dresses for a special occasion, I started scrolling through their website immediately. I chose this pretty Daisy Dress as it wasn't too fussy and I just thought it was so lovely; I especially love the shape- the skater style is so flattering and the chiffon pink bottom is so feminine.

With lots of Summery events like prom, graduation, weddings and parties, it's a time for finding pretty dresses. I thought I would style this dress for 'a wedding guest' outfit because it's a great one for taking you from day to night. I thought I would keep the rest of the outfit quite simple with my black Primark clutch and cute (but comfortable) wedges which add that pop of colour.

Because the dress is so pretty I thought I would wear my hair up in a casual ponytail to keep it that bit more fun. I think this dress would be great for any special occasion and I can't wait to wear it to a party myself!

Have you got any special occasions coming up?

healthier and happier

I didn’t know whether I wanted to do a blog post about this or not but after quite a few girls favourite my tweet about it, I thought it might be interesting to at least one person. Along with the journey in general, I’m mainly writing this for me.

I’ve always been a curvy girl, with ‘bigger’ hips and thighs and with being 5ft short tall, I would say I’ve struggled in the past to accept that I won’t be that model looking girl. But over the last couple of years, with the help of women like Kelly Brook and Katy Perry, I’ve accepted that my figure is just me, and there’s nothing I can change about that and I’m quite happy to have womanly curves. I’ve never been a particularly athletic girl and I’ve never enjoyed exercise so after leaving school and going through university, my weight slowly started to come on. Now I’m by no way saying that it was really obviously, but when I started looking back at photos, I realised the older I was getting, the fuller I was becoming- but don’t we all?

It wasn’t up until January this year that I realised I had become quite unhappy with myself and my body; I think I was using my curviness as an excuse, but I had started to look unhealthy. I started my first full time job in September 2013 and I found myself buying pasties (gross), crisps, chocolate, fruit drinks and mochas on my lunch, without even thinking about it much. I would say for about 5-6 months my skin started to break out and I was experiencing more spots than I had ever before. It wasn’t just how I looked, it was how I was feeling. I didn’t think about it much at the time but I had started to ignore my body; I would get changed as quickly as possible and avoid the mirror at all costs. I found myself becoming less confident in my body which definitely resulted in me being unhappy in other things. Smock dresses became my best friend; I’m not saying this is a bad thing but I was definitely trying to cover things up. I hadn’t even put that much weight on but it was more about the mental side that I wasn’t happy with.

I’ve tried diets before and most recently my Mum and I had tried the 5:2 diet. It worked at first but after about 5 weeks I was left feeling really disheartened, especially when it was working really well for my Mum. In January I decided to look in the mirror and I wasn’t very happy with what I saw; I also weighed myself and I realised I was the heaviest I had ever been (not everyone advises weighing yourself but for me this has helped me keep track). Around this time Dan’s Mum started Slimming World and I was quite interested with the general concepts of it- potatoes, pasta, rice and much more was “free” to eat whereas biscuits, chocolate, crisps and bread were “syns”. I didn’t join Slimming World and I didn’t (and don’t) really follow it. The main concepts are that you are allowed 10-15 syns a day but when I realised that a Rocky Bar was 5.5 syns, I realised where I was going wrong. That packet of crisps and small chocolate bar every day had already nearly equated to my bad things for that day.

I think it’s really important to say here that I’ve come to the realisation that everyone is different and when it comes to eating, things work in different ways for people. There’s a lot of diets and books out there that say “cut sugar” or “cut fat” which seems to work wonders for people but I knew this wouldn’t be realistic for me. I told myself to stop feeling guilty about a diet not working for me

Following the rough ideas of slimming world, I decided to stop taking crisps and chocolate to work and instead take an apple and a 0% fat (not worrying about sugar) yogurt with me. I would just like to say also that I am not a fruit lover unfortunately, but I have found the fruit that I enjoy- Golden Delicious apples for the win.

For me, it was little things like cutting out sugar from my tea, eating brown pasta with tuna (and mayo) for lunch or baked beans on wholemeal toast and really thinking about what I was eating. Dan and I go to the cinema regularly so it’s easy to get into the habit of sharing a big bag of minstrels, or popcorn with coke but we decide to take water and I will take a low calorie breakfast bar instead. It’s not really about what I’m eating, it was more I wanted to munch on something. I tried to cut down on desserts and got into Mini Milks instead! Dan and I had also got into a bad habit of visiting tesco every Thursday evening and buying lots of naughty things which we have tried to cut down!

As I said already I’m not one for exercise- I don’t enjoy running and the gym wasn’t fun enough to spend the money on. In March I joined a weekly dance/fitness class which I have been loving and I have really enjoyed every class. Not only is it fun but it has definitely helped me get fitter and tone up. I’ve also been giving the Wii Fit a go which I have enjoyed being able to do in my own home.

Since starting this lifestyle change in late January I’ve lost 10lbs and I honestly can’t quite believe it. I’ve never lost this much weight before but it’s happened over a good few months. What I love is that I don’t worry at weekends, I tend to eat what I want and I never stop myself from eating something I want. I’ll eat biscuits, chocolate and crisps but now it’s in moderation and I think about what I’m eating first.

As I said I haven’t spoken about this much and I haven’t made a big deal about it; my friends and family know I’ve been trying but it has been a slow (but steady and healthy) process and it’s been for my own benefit. I definitely have to say that I am so much more confident in my body and I am liking what I see in the mirror for once! I would never have worn a bodycon dress before but I bit the bullet a couple of months ago and I had some really lovely compliments. Because it’s been quite slow it’s not been very obvious to everyone but quite a few people have noticed which is so lovely to hear. I know people might think that I didn’t look overweight before but it had become about my unhappiness in myself and I want to be the best person (and have the best body) that I can. I have definitely become less tired and grumpy and I’ve definitely learnt to say no to things, especially puddings!

I’m still continuing with this change of lifestyle and eating and I do have a final goal but I’m not expecting that to happen any time soon, I’m enjoying the steady progress for the moment. I was able to buy a pair of shorts in a size that I wouldn’t have been able to in about three years and I ran out the shop to tell Dan and I nearly cried; it’s the things like this that keep me going. The things that I changed won’t help everyone because everyone’s lifestyles are different and I totally get thatI just wanted to say to any girls that feel pressure from the media or any other people about ‘what’s best to eat’ then please don’t let it affect you. Find what’s right for you and stick with that and you’ll be much happier for it. Scientists change their mind all the time about what’s right and wrong so who’s to tell me what to eat? It’s not about comparing myself to models anymore, it’s about measuring my happiness and my body.

I'm sorry if this was a bit long but it was one of those posts where I couldn't stop myself writing!

benefit they're real push-up liner event

I was lucky enough to be invited to Benefit’s launch of their new, exciting and ‘criminally easy’ product; They’re Real Push-Up Liner. I had seen a few pictures of the new product, but I was still mega excited to learn more about it.

This was actually my first ever blogging event so I was a bit nervous and I didn’t really know what to expect. After walking past the pink crime scene and being let in by a ‘policeman’, I was greeted by my gorgeous pal Megan in an orange prison-styled jumpsuit and led into a 'cell' to get my photo taken. You can see on my Instagram that I didn’t look very menacing!

After being seated, we had an extremely interesting presentation on the evolution of eye liner and the cons with every eye liner that currently sits on the beauty shelves; the pencil liner that smudges, the gel liner in a pot which isn’t practical and the liquid liner that just isn’t quite right.

We were told that with the specially created rubber applicator, it means it’s nearly impossible not to get right to the edges of your eyelashes and it makes it much more controllable and flexible with application; it also promises to be smudge free and extremely long lasting. So long lasting in fact, they’ve created a new They’re Real Eye Makeup Remover so it’s as easier than ever to get rid of those pesky panda eyes from the They’re Real products

We were shown a few videos, one of which featured a few girls that had been given this eye liner to try by Elle- with no branding or clue who’s liner it was and were overwhelmed with the new and impressive product.

We were then given  a demonstration by Lisa Benefit and her fellow inmates! After this we were all given a cute package so we could test the liner for ourselves! I was too scared to try this on the night in case it went horribly wrong but lots of girls around me were giving it a test and seemed impressed.

If I’m honest, I’m really rubbish with eye liner and find myself whimping out and using black eyeshadow as my definition. I’ve always been rather jealous of those girls that have mastered ‘the flick’ but the fact that the application of this new liner is meant to be ‘criminally easy’, it’s really got me interested and feeling confident about trying it again.

I’ve actually tried the eyeliner today; it’s lasted all day and I found it really easy to apply so I can’t wait to give it more of a test and maybe try a flick! My Mum has even asked me to try it out on her! Watch this space for a full review soon. You can get your hands on it late June 28th.

I just want to thank Benefit for the fabulous invite and a little thank you to Chelsea for being so lovely and being my friend for the night!

stripes and frills

Bag: Ebay
Nails: Barry M Greenberry

This post features some of my new favourite items. When I first saw this top I just knew I had to get it- stripes and pretty frills, what's not to love? Recently I've been buying a lot for my holiday and I thought this pretty cropped top was perfect to wear with denim shorts, but at that moment I didn't have denim shorts to wear it with! I just thought it was way too cute and perfect not to buy and I think it's a really reasonable price (I'm secretly after the white version too).

I've been on the hunt for some new denim shorts recently too; I really have trouble with shorts as my thighs are definitely my least favourite area and I find they're normally bum-skimmingly short. I don't often shop in Miss Selfridge but I happened to give it a go and spotted these gorgeous shorts! At first I thought they would be way too short but when I tried them on I found they weren't too bad and I love the fact they're high waisted too. The cute frilled embroidery on the bottom definitely make this pair of shorts; it makes them that bit more original and it definitely adds length! I know it might be a bit too much detail with the top too but I think it works pretty well.

The final favourite piece of this outfit is the boots; my lovely new Clarks boots. Again I had been on the hunt for some western/tan/brown ankle boots but they were all way too pricey for me. I decided to try Clarks as Dan has a really nice pair of desert boots from there. While perusing the site I happened to spot these little beauties in the sale! They may not be EXACTLY what I was looking for but I think they're super cute and stylish and what makes them even better is that they're comfortable! I can't wait to wear these with little dresses in Summer too.

What are your current wardrobe favourites?

two by two

Shoes- Primark
Bag- Urban Outfitters
Sunglasses: Primark

I've had a bit of an unexpected break from blogging this week. I'm not quite sure what happened to be honest, I think I just got caught up in relaxing in the evenings and the weekend as I find I stress about blogging and YouTubing more than I should sometimes. A break always makes me feel guilty and I feel like I need to put some more energy back into blogging again so here I am!

This was an outfit I wore a couple of weeks ago and it got lost somewhere along the way; I wasn't sure whether to share it but I thought why not! This is one of those dresses that I love to grab when I don't know what to wear because it's such a simple print and shape, but works really well. It's also rather apt because Dan and I went to the zoo at the weekend and I loved seeing the elephants!

These white platform trainers I got from Primark are definitely not my usual style but I saw them and I just couldn't leave without them for some reason. I'm not sure how much wear I'll get out of them but I think they're cute for summer and for £8 I thought I'd give them a try.

It's Cosmopoliton blog awards time again and I've never actually tried to get one before, but this year I'd quite like to give it a try. I'd quite like to be nominated in the Best Vlog category for my YouTube channel so if you enjoy watching my videos then I'd really appreciate it if you could click this link or click on the button in my side bar and give me a cheeky nomination. Unfortunately I don't think I quite fit under any of the other categories because I like to mix my blog up so much!
